One of my favorite collecting sites years ago was the Swatara Gap site in eastern PA, with exposed rocks of the Ordovician Martinsburg Fm. Collectors enjoyed collecting trilobites and rare starfish, among other fossils, for years … until the concern that continued colleting risked damage to I-81 overhead. The site was closed more than a decade ago, and for a while there was some decent collecting in a nearby park where loose rock had been hauled for collecting.
