    Description

Up for auction is this leather coin purse with coins that was found in a trunk in the attic in Silver Springs, Md.  I am listing a few other items from this estate which traces back to Col. John Frew Stewart from Paintsville Ky. and Cyrus Day Backus.  Stewart was a Major in the 39th Ky Mounted Infantry. This was a well to do family and well to do.  The attic had trunk after trunk pushed under the eves full of a variety of things.  I am not sure if the sliding rings that are used to close the purse are sterling or not, but the leather purse is about 11" long.  The coins were in either side, are foreign, and date 1878 and 1897.  I am guessing that one is Mexican and one is Spanish, but can decide for yourself as they are pictured.  Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
